DOG TRAINING

As the only place in Norway, the game farm is an approved area where you can test your dog against moose at fences. Our main goal is to help your dog, and not least, to provide good advice for the owners as well.

The farm also offers facilitated activities and out-of-the-ordinary overnight stays.

METHODOLOGY

ANALYSIS - TRAINING - CHANGE
The training goal of the game farm is to lay the foundation for good hunting experiences for dogs and hunters. We help puppies and young dogs understand their task and build a good relationship between dog and hunter.

Some dogs have changed behavior after a bad experience with moose. Often this can be solved by training in safety together with a dog handler and a dog in close contact with moose.

We can offer this in controlled forms.

DOG TRAINING WITH MOOSE BEHIND A FENCE
Our specialty is training moose dogs on moose in a safe environment. Our moose don't care about the dogs, but guess what, the dogs do! Being able to train the dogs in a safe and controlled environment is a unique opportunity that just has to be tried.
CALL-IN course
Setesdalens Kennel in cooperation with Viltgården organizes a course in basic calling. The course was held twice last year and with good feedback. The instructor for the course is Bjørnar Gyberg, who has a long experience from the Norwegian Defense Dog Service, and has trained the grey-elk- hound Setesdalens Zelda. EXERCISE SCIENCE AND ANATOMY COURSE
Courses in basic training theory and dog anatomy - in theory and practice. Sign up under Courses & gatherings.

SEASONS

Throughout the four seasons, we must always take into account the needs of our dogs.

WINTER

Winter is a great time for dog training, but we must take into account if for extended periods it has been very cold. We also see that there may be extreme weather changes and high winds. This can present challenges as the moose like to hide in order to have peace and control.

Otherwise, the moose are very often active and playful in winter and the time when the moose are happy to challenge and are in more movement.

JUMP

Spring, as a rule, is a very favorable season for training. The moose are in a period where they crave more contact and food. This causes them to stay down at the training area for longer periods of time. This is also a period that we like to use for training a leash dog.

After the bull loses his antlers, he becomes calmer and we can spend some time inside with the moose. The only thing we have to pay special attention to then, is around a possible calving at the end of the month of May/June.

SUMMER

Summer is the time we see most people wanting to train their dogs. For many, it is a vacation and the time can be used with the family to also train a dog. A great idea, but now we have to think about the dogs in particular. High temperatures are not very good for dogs as they can be prone to heat stroke at high activity. If it gets very hot, we sometimes have to adjust exercise times until early morning or until after sunset.

The moose are now also very calm as they do not thrive well in temperatures above 16 degrees. They lie more at rest and it is very suitable for puppy training or for dogs that need reassurance and less activity.

AUTUMN

When temperatures drop and brownstones in the moose are underway, they are more active. At this time, as in winter, we can get a lot out of training. The bull is in a rut and very playful. It can be challenging for some dogs, but it can also be an advantage if the dog needs a little extra movement to get going.
